Spouses of EU Blue Card holders are entitled to the issuance of a residence title without proven German language skills. They are granted immediate and unlimited permission to take up employment.
EU Blue Card holders can obtain a settlement permit after 33 months of employment in Germany if they have made monthly contributions to the statutory pension insurance fund during this period and if they are able to make themselves understood in German on a basic level and have basic knowledge of the legal and social order in Germany.
The qualification period is shortened to 21 months for people with adequate knowledge of German (B1 level).
